Shop Sustainably This End Of Financial Year Sale
The most anticipated time of year is upon us! The End of financial year sales is one of the biggest events all consumers look forward to, Myself included. With the overwhelming amount of sales, it is easy to get excited and go on a big shopping spree.
Here is some food for thought, have you considered looking for sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives for the products you love? It’s completely ok if you haven’t, did you know there are so many plastic-free alternatives for most products out there?
We already know the damage the fast fashion industry is having on our planet and it looks like it won’t be reducing any time soon. There are so many companies who are fighting to introduce slow fashion.
Slow fashion is buying quality over quantity and buying with purpose. So instead of buying from fast fashion brands who have little to no care for the environmental impacts consider shopping with brands like Boody.
Boody is leading the way towards slow fashion and shopping with purpose. Boody provides everyday essentials for every, body. Not only do they use organically harvested bamboo. They are part of the 1% for the planet, B Corp and FSC certified. They offer a recycling program via Upparel. They are currently working with the Mrgrath Foundation in supporting women’s health. It is brands like Boody to look for who are transparent in their mission to a cleaner greener future.
If there is one thing you can do this EOFY sales is be mindful when you shop. Here are five tips to help you plan your shopping and be a conscious consumer:
Plan your Purchase
Don’t worry I am not going to bore you with, make a list of what you need versus what you want. I will however suggest this is the perfect time of year to think ahead about birthdays, Christmas and other events you have coming up that you may be able to shop for. Planning to buy with a purpose in mind will help you focus on what you need versus what you want and will hopefully prevent impulse shopping.
Buy quality over quantity
I know you have heard this time and time again. With the way prices are skyrocketing even during EOFY sales, we can’t afford to rebuy items we have already bought. A quality item is more than what it is made from. It’s about value for money, how often will you use the item, and whether is it versatile and Durable.
Environmentally conscious brands make their products with this in mind. Brands like Stanley, Temu and Shien do not consider the impact their products have on the environment during the manufacturing process. Dropping a new collection every week is not sustainable.
Be careful of Greenwashing
Companies are now slapping a sustainable speel on their website to fit in with what they think is a trend. Sustainability is not a trend, it is a lifestyle it is the future. Be careful of brands who use greenwashing jargon and make sure you research before you make a purchase.

Look for sustainable certifications
Look for certifications like Fair Trade, B Corp, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), and organic labels that indicate sustainable practices. Do they have a certified recycling program or work with environmental organisations?
Have fun with your shopping
Sustainable shopping can sometimes seem like a burden. It’s not convenient that’s for sure, it might require some research and deep diving into brands, but your impact is having a positive effect on our future. So have fun, and be proud of yourself.
My top go-to sustainable brands
Biome Eco Store – Biome has a wide range of sustainable and ethical brands. I primarily shop for my skin and body care from Biome, I am currently using the Ethique solid face cleansing bar. This bar works wonders on my skin, there are 4 mini-bars. I am still on my first bar and I have had this for over 3 months. I love the value for money.
Earths Tribe – I never thought I would love housework, but after buying the Unpaper towels it is easy to keep my kitchen clean, and I never run out of towels again! I have both the kitchen unpaper towels and the toilet unpaper towels. The amount of money I have saved on paper towels and toilet paper is incredible.
Boody – I shop all my everyday essentials through Boody. I do not shop anywhere else for my bamboo underwear and now have the leggings and bike shorts. I will be purchasing my loungewear and sleepwear this financial season! Being comfortable and warm is a must for me and the soft bamboo fabric is perfect for my sensitive skin.
